Lemnos History

Lemnos is an island in the north-eastern Aegean Sea. The volcanic landscape, the simple architecture, the beautiful beaches and the long history of the island impress the visitor. Lemnos rises from the centuries.The first habitants lived here around the 5th millenium B.C. At Hephaistia you will see the first capital and biggest city of the island. Poliochni is a city estimated 1000 years older than Troja. There is also the oldest parliament of the world.

Myrina is the capital and port of Lemnos. At Myrina's Museum you will find most of the objects found in excavations around the island. Myrina, as well as the villages of the island, offer all the facilities to the visitor for a peaceful and pleasant vacation. It is worthy to mention the extraordinary seashores and beaches of the island (about 500 km coasts). Beaches like Plati, Ai-Giannis, Evgatis, Thanos and Neftina are unique in beauty and clear waters.
